These examples are glass fiber reinforced plastic made in Germany by Vitra. Danish designer Verner Panton spent many years thinking about how to produce a plastic chair moulded in one piece. Together with Vitra, he came up with the first prototypes in the 1960's and the Panton chair went into series production in 1967. Unlike the cheaper Panton Chair Standard in solid plastic, Panton Chair Classic is made of rigid expanded plastic and has a lacquered surface. The Classic version is a limited production high-gloss material version made under close supervision of the Panton Estate and the original Vitra Development team. Chairs have original Vitra labels and are imprinted "Verner Panton" on the foot. All six (6) chairs are in "as found" excellent/very good condition with minor scratches, scuffing and chipping along edges. All stated conditions are minor and do not detract from overall appearance/integrity of chairs. The chairs were used in a showcase design home, so they were never subject to everyday use.
