Comes 100% complete with original scabbard and original frog in tough web material. Overall length 14 ½ " (37 cm). The 9.5 inch long, fullered blade shows clear Tula Arsenal stamp (star) and quality control markings. Matching Cyrillic “E” mark to the pommel and numerous quality stamps. Pommel has functioning retaining mechanism; the grip is in high quality hardwood showing inventory number "5395". This perfect WW2 collectible item has rich history: the SVT automatic rifle was Red Army’s most advanced infantry weapon when it was first introduced in 1938, just before WW2. Its 1940 model (SVT-40) was made more reliable and the best RKKA units were equipped with it, as opposed to the old Mosin-Nagant rifles given to regular Soviet infantry. During the war against Germany the SVT-40 became too complex and expensive to manufacture in huge quantities, so priority was given to cheap PPSh and PPS submachine-guns. The SVT rifle remained a prized weapon to the Red Army soldier throughout the war and with added sniper scope it became legendary as standard equipment for most Soviet snipers. After the war, this bayonet was carefully stored in a Soviet military warehouse until there was no more use for it, as AK-47 became Soviet army weapon of choice.  The blade is immaculate. Clean, outstanding, excellent condition throughout, beautifully preserved in factory-applied cosmoline and never used since.
