Extremely rare and highly important Sir Herbert Louis Samuel (1870-1963) Judaica carpet Kerman, Persia 1920.                                      "Iridescent in its brilliant, vivid colors, this exuberant carpet is a celebration of the appointment of Sir Herbert Samuel as the British high commissioner of Palestine, the first Jew to Govern Israel for nearly two thousand years. The biblical quotations in the twenty cartouches proclaim the event with messianic fervour. The name of the weaver, Hillel Chai and the date are inscribed in the bottom right-hand box. The four Stars of David in the corners are typically Persian, 'Zion' being implanted in the centre of the form and the six Hebrew letters for the words 'Star of David' implanted in the six outer equilateral triangles (The Israel museum Jerusalem)".
