Description
Super RARE Morris Patent 22" Diamond Metallic Jointer Plane manufactured by the Sandusky Tool Company, Sandusky, Ohio in the 1870's.  ( Pat. date on plane says Nov, 1870 ) The 1877 Sandusky Tool Catalog lists this plane in 3 sizes,  22" being the largest.  Actual length is 21 5/8". This plane is in good used condition with worn original black paint on the metal and original worn lacquer finish on the wooden parts.  I have not done anything except dust this item for the last 25 years, so it is how I received it. Plane has wonderful floral decorations in the casting.  There is paint and laquer wear and slight surface rust on the bottom.  It also has a Sandusky marked iron, which I assume is original to the piece.  I have not tried to clean this in any way, except dusting, and will leave any further cleaning up to the purchaser. One of these planes in this size was sold at auction in New Hampshire in 2005 for over $5000, and it was rated to be in good collector condition.  I could only reference one photo from it, but could not see enough close ups to compare condition to this one. If you search the web, you should be able to find this reference.  Please be your own judge, and if you need any additional pictures, just let me know. Due to the rarity and fragile nature of this item, it will be doubled boxed for shipping. I will answer any questions as soon as possible.  Thank you.  On Dec-03-08 at 06:07:46 PST, seller added the following information:I have added 5 photos to better show condition of the wooden parts of this plane.  When I removed the wedge, I did find an old small split in the tine end of the wedge ( doesn't have any movement and doesn't look like any one tried to fix),a ding on the end of the other tine( wedge was probably dropped at one time), a ding in the opposite end of the wedge, and some minor roughness on the edges of the handle.  I find no breaks or repairs in the metal parts, other than a few very small chips in the cutting edge of the blade.    Due to interest, I will accept international bids. Thank you.
