This is Prince Valiant Vol. 2: The Singing Sword, the second out of the original forty books in the Prince Valiant series, collecting the classic Sunday newspaper comic strips in a large-oversize trade paperback-type format. The book measures approximately 9 3/4" by 13 1/2", which lets you see the incredible Hal Foster art in nice large detail, and was published by Fantagraphic Books. It includes Prince Valiant In The Days of King Arthur comprising pages 47 (January 1, 1938) through 92 (November 13, 1938) by the legendary Harold R. Foster, and includes the early exploits of Val. Some of the classic stories included in this book are the kidnapping of Sir Gawain by the evil sorceress Morgan Le Fey, Val's attempt at rescuing Gawain from Le Fay's castle with the help of Merlin the wizard, Val's challenge to King Arthur's son, Prince Arn, over the right to marry Ilene, Val's battle against the Vikings with the aid of the Singing Sword, Val's encounter with Thagnar, Val and Arn's search for Ilene, Val's return to Thule and the castle where his father ruled, Val's entrance into the tournament in his attempt to win knighthood, Val's challenge to Sir Tristram, Val's return to his exiled father in the Fens, Val's return visit to the witch Horrit and her second prophecy for Val, and much more. The book is in good condition, but does have wear, including cover crease marks and a small edgewear tear near the lower right-side edge of the front cover. This great softcover book features classic stories and art reprinted in full-color, and is a must for any Prince Valiant or comics strip fan. This is the stated FIRST PRINTING from Summer 1988.
