Description
Original Whitehead & Hoag Co., Newark, New Jersey Button Collectors catalog circa 1896-1901. Yes, there were lots of pinback button collectors in this early classic pinback button era. That is one of the reasons that so many different designs of buttons were issued. We do not know the precise month & year that this very rare catalog was issued. But, it is likely that the catalog was issued prior to McKinley's assination on 6 September 1901 as he is the last president mentioned in the 24 button president set on page 5 of the catalog. The "Little Pinkies" button design on page 16 of the catalog mentions that the design was patented on July 21, 1896 so the catalog was definitely issued after this date. If someone carefully checked into the dates of the Governors & Governors-Elect an even more precise date of issue for the catalog could probably be pinned down. This is catalog No. 37 and it is 16 pages long. The catalog is complete as issued. The front & back has some minor creasing & soiling. There is some wear & minor separation at the spine. But, the staples are still holding the entire catalog firmly together. There are some interior creases & bends to pages. But, all interior pages are firmly attached to the original staples. Page 4 has some pencil marks which could probably be removed if desired. Page 7 has a 7/16" tear at the right edge. The catalog measures 6 3/16" long by 3 3/8" wide. Please note that we have scanned the catalog pages at the percentages mentioned under the first photo. However, the photos may appear at different sizes depending on the resolution on your monitor. Please note the actual precise dimensions given above for the exact correct measurements of the pages.Page 1 has the catalog title. Page 2 has a message to people wishing to design their own buttons. Page 3 has a message to button collectors. Page 4 lists the Flags of Different Nations 60 button set. Page 5 lists the 24 button set of Presidents of the United States.Page 6 lists 13 Celebrated American generals. Page 7 lists the 15 button set of Maps of Important States. Interestingly, the Whitehead & Hoag Co. has essentially insulted all of the other remaining states in the U.S. at the time. Page 8 lists a 15 button set of Choice and Rare Flowers. Page 9 lists a set of 21 rare and Handsome Birds. Page 10 lists a set of 17 Ocean Steamships.Page 11 lists a set of 17 Warships of the U.S. Page 12 lists a set of 59 Celebrated men and Women.
