sheilahare store 1950's/60 Old Doris & Warren ONDELACY Squash Blossom A Magnificent Huge Squash Blossom Necklace from the Kathryn Noe Collection. Kathryn Noe was an Employee of C G Wallace for over 20 years, his protege really. C.G. Wallace was a trader at Zuni Pueblo in the early to mid-1900's. He encouraged artists to experiment, resulting in a melding of traditional styles and motifs with contemporary techniques. Over the years, Wallace established a private collection of 2,500 pieces of exquisite jewelry, 525 of which he donated to the Heard Museum in Phoenix Arizona in 1975. The C.G. Wallace Collection is considered the largest, most well-documented collection of Native American jewelry from the early to mid-1900's. Kathryn Learned the Trading Business from Wallace and Over the Years Kathryn began to "pull" some of her favorite cherished Pieces from the C G Wallace Vault and compile her own Collection. After Working for C G Wallace, Kathryn Noe eventually Started her own Successful Gallery "The Zuni Shop" in Gallup New Mexico on Coal Street. Kathryn Operated this Business between 1959 through the late 1960's. In 1969 Kathryn closed the doors to her store, and packed up her entire Collection . This Necklace, (and several other pieces), Came down to us through the Son Of Kathryn Noe, This Necklace was held by the family from 1969 to 2001. (Both Kathryn and her son are now Deceased). Also Listed in our Store are Several of the Large ONDELACY Cluster Squash Blossoms, Bracelets, an Oxblood Coral Strand, and a Kenneth Begay Cuff all of which directly from the C G Wallace Vault- Through Kathryn's Diligence and Fine Understanding of the Value of these Pieces. Warren and Dorris Ondelacy were Zuni Cluster Artisans who worked for C G Wallace in the 1940's/50's. Several pieces of their work can be found in the Sotheby's famous C G Wallace Auction book. Mr. Ondelacy was known for his meticulous craftsmanship and this is certainly a prime example.. ~Daughter Bernice- is married to Robert Leekya, son of the famous Zuni Carver Leekya Deyuse. ~Daughter Alice Quam-Famous for her Fine Cluster Work This Huge Cluster Squash Blossom Necklace, is set with 228 Individually Hand Carved Natural LONE MOUNTAIN Turquoise Cabochons. Set in Sterling Silver Squashes that were formed by pouring molten silver into individual molds, the bezels surrounding each stone are exceptionally fine, and of the highest quality. The 228 Stones are entirely Original to the piece, no replacements. 186 Hand Made Sterling Silver Bench Beads draw up the back. The Naja itself hangs just under 5 inches tall and is 3 3/4 inch wide. Necklace measures 28 inches long + the Naja length. This is considered a "Grand Master" Squash Blossom, a Magnificent Historical piece from a rich Indian Arts Era. Now, most of our Squash Blossoms sell in the $1200-$2500. range, this however is an ultra rare treasure, given its exceptional History, extremelly rare natural stones, and the artistry involved.
