Description
This Novelty cast iron mechanical bank is complete. All of the paint is original in all respects. There is no touchup. The bank is in sound operational condition. The bank has all original, wonderful, bright, & pleasing paint. This is an excellent example of a Novelty Bank that is in far, far better condition than the average example normally encountered. The bank still retains its original coin trap & original spring casing lid on the bottom as well as the original screws for both of these. The bank has a few tiny minor flaws. The flat spring inside the bottom casing was replaced. The wire that holds the door open & closed was replaced. The figure inside that holds the coin has a tiny break on the top of the ring on his ankle.Behind this point the door wire has been attached to the figure by wrapping it around the back of the ring rather than going thru the ring. There is a minute 1/16" by 1/32" semicircular groove that was put in his ankle for the wire to rest on.The next tiny flaw is very hard to see with the naked eye. There is a tight closed hairline crack underneath the bank by the rivet that definitely is guaranteed to have occurred in the making. The hairline measures 1 1/8" long (measuring approximately 1/2 of this length on each side of the rivet). This hairline is so tight & hard to see with the naked eye that it has little effect on the value. We took a closeup pic so that it can be seen better on eBay. Although all of these flaws are all tiny we always like to mention anything & everything regardless of how minor it might be. On any bank that we sell it is highly unlikely that you will ever find a flaw that we have missed. This bank was patented on June 25, 1872 & on October 28, 1873. The patent dates are incised below the windows on the back panel. The bank was designed by Charles Johnson. The bank was manufactured by the J. & E. Stevens Co. of Cromwell, Conn. The bank shows some wear on the roof & slight wear on the sides panels & on the inside. The precise lustrous & appealing condition of the bank is clearly shown in the pics. The bank measures 4 7/16" deep counting the front step by 4 7/16" wide counting the protruding edges by 6 13/16" tall.We guarantee this item to be original as described & we offer a full & prompt refund if you are not satisfied & if the item is returned in the same condition within 3 days of receipt.
