MEXICAN COMIC BOOK COVERS: Comic books often represent thr popular reading habits of a culture. Comic book covers must provide inducement to purchase the book, while also reflecting the content. The original cover art represents comics published from the 60's to the early 80's. The comics sold for a few centavos and were therefore readily available to the working population of Mexico. Many of the covers are signed by the artists. The medium is gouache on 15 x 10 inch artist board. The titles include: Micro Leyendas, Micro Suspenso, Micro Misterio, Lo Inesperado, Hombre en guerra, Heroes De La Pradera, Archivo Policiaco, El Hombre Invisible and Las Visitas de la Muerte. On the backs of the paintings appear the titles of the books, and instructions for the printer. This collection was acquired from the original publisher in Mexico City. The artists include: Dorantes, Fzavala, Marin, Luna, Araujo, Oritz and others. These artists represent a highpoint in comic book illustration of the period. The comics covered Mexican legends, romance, westerns, mystery and the super hero, all subjects appealing to the everday man on the streets of Mexico.
