Description
19th century copy of medieval dueling sword, or main gauche.  This is a very well made sword, made as if were to be used in a medieval battle.  Overall length is about 26 inches.  Blade length is 18 inches, blade width at widest point is 3 5/8 inches.  Handle length is 7 1/2 inches.  Handle has iron studs on a very tight leather grip.  Has an armorer's mark on the blade consisting of a ball, crescent and another shape.  Guard is 7 1/2 inches long, with ends curved in opposite directions.  The weight of this sword is 2 lbs 6 oz.  Sword is in excellent condition, with light rust and wear.  The back edge of the blade, opposite the teeth, has an edge, which has dulled over time.  The entire sword is made of iron, with the leather-covered handle.  Early 1900s copies of the Bannerman Catalogue of Military Goods, in the section "Curious Ancient Weapons", show a main gauche that is nearly identical to this one, including the armorer's mark (see pictures included with this item).  It is not likely you will find a dueling sword like this anytime soon and may be as close as one will come to the real medieval version of this sword. As always, we are dedicated to providing customer service.
