Description
The map of the Lost Dutchman's Mine in the Superstition mountains of Arizona Don Miguel Peralta along with his father & Grandfather worked the mine later known as the Lost Dutchman. Don Peralta was a notorious gambler. Jacob Waltz and his partner Jacob Weisner made a loan to Peralta to cover a gambling debt he had incurred in Mexico. In repayment for the loan, he carved a map on a piece of 9" X 12" rawhide showing the location of the Lost Dutchman's mine. This map was given to Jacob Waltz in 1879. As Jacob Waltz didn't know any Spanish but knew a little English, and Don Peralta knew a little English but no German, Waltz's native tongue, most of the writing on the map is in English. (Most of the counterfeit maps are in Spanish.) The Dutchman's map was obtained by Earl C. Hornish in 1924. Earl was murdered in 1949 and the map was left to his son, Henry Hornish. Sometime around 1964 Henry was offered $2,000,000 for the map, but wouldn't sell due to a promise he had made to his father to keep the map in the family. In later years as Henry was running short of funds to continue the search for the lost treasures in and around the Superstition mountains he allowed two people to photograph the map for undisclosed amounts of money. Many of the phony maps found in various books and museums came from altered photographs of this authentic rawhide map. Henry and his family spent 23 years in a full time search for the lost treasures. Henry held onto the map until 1985 when he was also murdered. The story of Henry's murder is the subject of a novel currently being written. (Movie rights have also been optioned.) All the players of the Hornish family are deceased and the map is now being offered for sale by Henry's last partner for a price of only $55,000. This is your only chance to own one of the most notorious and famous documents in the History of the American West! Notes: Don is a title of respect as used in Don Miquel Peralta, which is carved on the left side of the map. The J in Waltz's signature is backward (on the map) on purpose as both men, Jacob Waltz and Jacob Weisner had the same initials. Other information is available by phone or email.
