This its the work of one holders of the Soteno Dinasty, Moises Soteno, son of Great Master of Mexican folk art TIburcio Soteno. 21" Tall BY 14" wide. This magnificent clay sculpture it is a tribute to Frida Kahlo, since many dacades ago the Soteno family has been affected by the art of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. As recounted in the book, Ceramic Trees of Life, Popular Art From Mexico,  the creative style of the pottery made by Modesta Fernandez (grand mother of Moises Soteno) gained the notice of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo who began collecting Fernandez´s pieces (many of which are displayed at the Frida Kahlo Bllue House in Coyoacan).  Rivera fondness of Modesta´s clay figures led him to request that she create a depiction of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, circa the late 1930s or early 1940s.  Fernandez´s early trees were not trees at all, but rather a single pole wrapped by a serpent, with Adam and Eve on each side.  With time, there was a yearning to tell more complex Biblical stories through clay and to incorporate more figures and decorations into each piece, and the entire Soteno family rose to the challenge.
