Description: Fully finely painted scene of the Transfiguration covered with original silver parcel gilt chased oklad with borders and halos decorated with polychrome hand painted enamel. At the scene of Transfiguration the Christ's disciples Peter, James, and John are depicted at the Mount of Tabor. On this mountain the disciples stunned and in a state of ecstasy, saw the deified body of Christ standing on a cloud between Moses and Elijah. At this point the disciples fell on their faces struck by the rays of uncreated light, which shone from the luminous aura enveloping the body of Christ. Measurements: 21.5 cm x 26.5 cm (8 1/2 in x 10 1/2 in ) Marks: The silver riza is hallmarked in multiple places with 84 zolotnik (875/1000) purity mark, city of Moscow mark, and an maker's mark "C.G." for an unknown Moscow master (Postnikova-Loseva number 2861). Condition: Superb original condition, minor patina and cosmetic scratches on the silver riza . very minor damage to the right bottom corner as shown on close ups. Very minor damage to the painted surface outside of the openings. Authenticity: This item is guaranteed to be genuine Russian mid-19c icon and NOT a later reproduction.
