Description
This is a RARE MILLVILLE ART GLASS ~ Made by CLEVENGER BROS. Beautiful BRILLIANT AMETHYST in color JOHN PAUL JONES Bottle ~ Flask. It measures approx. just over 7" x 5" wide. On the front is the bust of JOHN PAUL JONES and reads; JOHN PAUL JONES. The back of the bottle reads; NAVAL HERO ~ 1747 - 1792 ~ BONHOMME RICHARD ~ VS ~ SERAPIS SEPT 23, 1779 ~ BICENTENNIAL ~ "I HAVE NOT YRT BEGUN TO FIGHT". The bottom shows the Clevenger Mark along with MAG 1ST RUN. MINT CONDITION with no chips, flaws, etc. PERFECT in every way. EDWIN JOHNSON, owned HOLLY CITY BOTTLE "HCB" and MILLVILLE ART GLASS "MAG. He designed many Commemorative Decanters and had them made by several companies in the area such as CLEVENGER, DOWNER GLASS WORKS and WHEATON. In his own words: "THIS IS A FINE EXAMPLE OF ONE OF AMERICA'S OLDEST CRAFTS ~ GLASSMAKING. SUPERB DESIGN and WORKMANSHIP have gone hand in hand to make this AMERICAN-MADE COMMEMORATIVE a fitting example of this art. The mold design for this Limited Editon "LTD ED" Commemorative was HAND CUT. Blisters, seeds, bits of stone, laps, cords, stretch marks, choked necks, etc. are typical of handmade Glassware and are not considered objectionable. The authentic PONTIL mark on the bottom of the bottles are generally rough. This particular decanter is quite beautiful A must for any collector.
