It was typical of the period that either Pennsylvania Dutch/German or New York, Hudson area Dutch/German teachers would give elaborate Rewards of Merit to their students. As schooling was religion based in those communities, the content was very often prayer like. Such Rewards were prepared ahead of time for a special presentation day. The translation is: For the 16th day of August 1836 Jesus, sun of Life, Arise with renewed delight in her soul.
