H. G. C. Hallock, Ph. D., editor. Shanghai (106 N. Szechuan Road). Nineteen folded leaves (38 pp.) sewn in fuscia folded wraps (printing on both sides). The sewing locks the leave together in three places. The paper is finely textured and NOT acidic. Contains advertisements for products and companies in China and the U.S., such as Vaseline, Valentine's Meat Juice, Lu Wei Watch, Horlick's Malted Milk, and United States Steel Products Co., (at The Bund, Shanghai), etc. There are numerous b/w advertisements illustrated from engravings and photos. The back wrap bears an illustration of the Statue of Liberty. The text for the almanac and calendar material is in Chinese. Publication matter on the cover, product and company names, and the wise aphorisms that appear on almost every page are in English. CONDITION: Overall the condition is Very Good , especially considering the age, delicacy, and ephemeral nature of the item. The leaves are mildly aged, but show little wear except at the top corners, which have been bent over (as someone might do through the course of a year); the paper of the leaves is still pliable and not brittle. The wraps are quite good also. The fuscia color is bright; there is minor soiling and moderate edge chipping and a stain on the back that does not interfere with the text. The sewn binding is Very Good and still very secure. We use standard bookseller's grading standards: As New, Fine, Near Fine, Very Good Plus, Very Good, Good Plus, Good, Fair, Poor, Reading Copy.
