The Very Best From Alaska On eBay! The Handles Are 100% Alaska Native Made Signed Handicraft!!! *** These are high quality hand made knives of unsurpassed beauty and design combined with Native American/Eskimo art. These are a matched serial numbered set (90). Likely a once in a lifetime opportunity for sure!! *** These knifes are presented with a hand made native Alaskan cottonwood boxes commerating the 1975 Fur Rendezevous and the 1974 Arctic Winter Games with inlayed Alaska Mint medallions. Gil Hibben: was responsible for the creation all of the knifes (All an excellent work of art indeed). A large project that was done with class and expertise not to mention all the good cheer of a master of arts working with other of the same venue. Both Peter & Gil knew talent across the devides of culture. Gil lives and works in LaGrange, Kentucky. Over the years Gil achieved fame as a premier custom knife maker and his work has been featured in, and on the covers of, national gun and knife magazines. He has established a whos-who following of collectors including John Wayne, Elvis Pressly, Steve McQueen, Sylvester Stallone and Steven Segal also world leaders such Israel's defense minister Moshe Dayan, the Sultan of Bruei and Vice President Dan Quale. He is considered to be one of the finest knife makers in the world. All of the expert scrimshaw sperm whale tooth handles are the work of Peter Mayac, a King Island, First Nations Alaska Native Inupiat Eskimo. Again, another daunting task for an aging Artist. A Native man that has respect for Gil and others that made this project possible. Peter Mayac is easily the most well known Alaska Native carver and scrimshaw artist. His works are next to impossible to find for purchase as they have landed in the hands of serious collectors and museums that will not sell. Peter passed on in 1984. A sad passing for family, artists and all the friends that he touched along his way. Peter is dearly missed! Mayac Family (Inupiat) The Mayac Family is one of the best known ivory carving families in Alaska. Originally from King Island, Alaska, they have gained an international reputation for their realistic walrus ivory carvings of arctic birds. Ted Mayac, Sr., and Al Mayac learned to carve from their father, Peter Mayac. Peter learned to carve as a young man when he would go with other villagers to Nome. While they would sit on the shore under their beached boats to sell their fish, they would pass the time carving ivory. Today, Al Mayac, Ted, Jr., and their cousins, Larry and Fred Mayac, are full time carvers whose attention to detail -- carving each feather and painstakingly painting each one -- has landed their art in collections around the world. Rita Mayac, Ted, Sr., and Al's sister, is also an artist, carving graceful, smaller figures and well known for her ivory earrings. Bob Levine is the sheath maker, another Alaskan. The Fur Rondezveous knife was a very limited Edition with only 151 made with number "0" going to the winning musher of the 1975 World Championship Sled Dog Race. The Arctic Winter Games knife is very limited as well as there were only 150 made. Very very Rare and very very nice indeed! PLEASE NOTE: INSURANCE IS INCLUDED IN THE SHIPPING PRICE!
