Sand molds were made from the originals and each mold was used only once so no details in the bank were lost. Ebay has warned prospective buyers repeatedly about counterfeit banks being sold here. The original 19th Century banks sell for  thousands of dollars. The original Book of Knowledge banks are 50 to 60 years old and retail in antique stores between $300 and $400 each. The chances of picking up an original Book of Knowledge bank here for significantly less are basically nil. This bank has great patina, just a couple of very small chips, no cracks and the mechanism works perfectly.
